“The world will be saved and remade by the dreamers.”

I just finished this book and let me tell you, I’m so sad it hurts. I’ve been sitting here trying to piece together everything that happened but there is so much that it seems impossible. I decided that I will go through the basics and that’s all you’re getting. Too damn bad.

Aelin and her squad are still on point. Everyone has their place and they move together like a perfect machine. I like the dynamic between Aelin and her court. You can see that they respect her as their queen but they also respect one another.
Rowan and Aelin’s love is stronger than ever. The love they share for each other made me excited for their future. He would do anything for her and she would do the same for him. They respect one another and make each other better. I love it.

“He was hers and she was his and they had found each other across centuries of bloodshed and loss, across oceans and kingdoms and war.”

Lysandra slays. When we first meet her, we see her as this consort who has been hiding her pain for a long time. Her friendship with Aelin made her strong and she would do anything for her queen. The battle scene with her badass, shape-shifting self was incredible. She is willing to give up her life for her friends. That kind of love is what makes her strong. I really hope that her and Aedion end up together. I think they would make a good team.

Dorian really stepped up in this story. His bromance with Rowan was great. Rowan taught him how to use his magic. I think it’s important that he learns from Rowan. I’m certain that there will be more things Dorian will accomplish by the end of this series.

Let’s talk about my girl Manon. She is my queen. This witch’s character development is so on point that I want to hug SJM and thank her. Manon has come a long way from when we first met her. Manon finds herself in deep shit after her grandmother nearly kills her. She allies herself with Aelin and gang after almost dying. I always knew that Manon and her thirteen would end up with Aelin. I also knew that Manon and Dorian would get together. I knew it.

What I didn’t expect was Elide coming and becoming one of my favorite characters. Her mother died protecting Aelin and ever since then, she wanted to find her. I think Elide is smart and cunning and could outlast most people if she wished. Her relationship with Lorcan has potential and I hope to see more of that in the future and that she forgives him.

“Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen, knew the time would soon come to prove just how much she’d bleed for Erilea.”

The ending made my heart stop. All this time, Aelin knew. She knew and she told no one. Well, Lysandra but no one else. She held this burden since birth because of Elena and her mistakes. I’m heart-broken and devastated about what will come of Aelin’s fate. Meave needs to die. I will kill her myself for what she has done. And I’m sure there is a long line of people willing to end her.

Overall, this book is a lot to take in. There are many different story POVs over the course of the book that helps intertwine everything from book one to now. The fight scenes and battles are intense and thrilling. The end and the final sacrifice had me in tears. If I didn’t think that Sarah J Maas could top a plot twist ending like in A Court of Mist and Fury, I was wrong. She has really outdone herself with Empire of Storms. I need the next book now. Just waiting a year will make it worse. I WANT IT NOW.

I did reviews on the first four books. You find them linked below:
